Marshall Volleyball Team Sweeps ULM
The Marshall University Volleyball team put on an impressive performance, defeating ULM in straight sets: 25-15, 25-11, 25-20. This victory, celebrated on Cancer Awareness Day, was particularly meaningful for the team.
Head Coach Heather Stout expressed her pride in the team’s effort. “It’s special to win on a day that holds deeper significance. You really feel that passion when you’re playing for a purpose,” she said.
In terms of player highlights, Logan Henderson led with nine kills and two blocks. Marae Reilly contributed eight kills with a hitting percentage of .400. Emma Barnett also shined, adding eight kills, seven digs, and two aces. Bella Thompson was crucial as the setter, notching 29 assists and seven digs.
The match showcased Marshall’s strong teamwork. In the first set, Barnett scored early, and a six-point service run from Morgan Caba helped them take an early lead. The Herd maintained that momentum, closing the set 25-15 with back-to-back kills by Carys Kerr.
The second set was even more dominant, as Marshall jumped to a 4-0 lead, thanks to kills from Thompson and Barnett. They finished the set 25-11 after ULM faltered.
Despite ULM’s attempt to rally in the third set, Marshall quickly retaliated with a key ace from Barnett. Both Reilly and Barnett delivered clutch kills to secure the win, ending the set at 25-20.
As a team, Marshall hit a remarkable .322, out-blocking ULM 10-5, and limiting their opponents to a -.011 hitting percentage. The Herd recorded a total of 40 kills, 10 blocks, 38 digs, and four aces.
Looking ahead, Marshall will aim for another victory against ULM on Friday at 6 p.m. The team is competing not just for wins but also to inspire support for a good cause.
