ITHACA, N.Y. — Ayrton Martino had a standout performance at Lynah Rink on Friday night. He scored and assisted on all three goals as Clarkson, ranked No. 19, beat Cornell 3-1. This victory improved Clarkson’s record to 19 wins and 9 losses, while Cornell’s record stands at 11 wins, 9 losses, and 6 ties.
Martino’s achievements were impressive. He scored his 20th goal of the season, making him the first Clarkson player to reach that mark since Sheldon Rempal in 2017-18. He also added two assists, bringing his season total to 18. Clarkson is now 12-1-0 in road games this season.
Another key player for Clarkson was Ryan Richardson, who scored an empty-net goal and assisted on Martino’s opening goal. Garrett Dahm also contributed with a goal. Clarkson confirmed a first-round bye for the playoffs with this win, and their goaltender, Ethan Langenegger, made 24 saves to earn his 18th victory of the season.
For Cornell, senior forward Sullivan Mack scored the team’s only goal, extending his point streak to three games. Another senior, Ian Shane, stopped eight shots in this match.
The first period ended without any goals, but Dahm opened the scoring for Clarkson in the second period with a goal from the right faceoff circle. Martino assisted on that goal.
Cornell managed to equalize late in the second period. Mack, using his skills, scored off a nice pass from Kyler Kovich.
In the third period, Cornell had a chance to take the lead. Nick DeSantis went on a breakaway but was stopped by Langenegger, who made a crucial save.
As the game neared its end, Martino scored again, this time after a fast break, and despite Cornell’s efforts to rally back—including a few shot attempts—Clarkson added an empty-net goal to seal the game.
