The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire has made headlines by becoming the first sedan in India to earn a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). This certification was celebrated recently in New Delhi, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari praising the achievement.
In addition to the Dzire, the Baleno model also impressed with a 4-star rating. Both cars are built on Suzuki’s advanced HEARTECT platform. They come with features designed to keep passengers safe, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®), ABS with EBD, and even 360-degree HD cameras.

Gadkari emphasized the importance of these advancements, noting that Maruti Suzuki is leading the way in making safety features standard in vehicles. Hisashi Takeuchi, the company’s CEO, echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in the efforts to enhance road safety in India. He revealed plans to equip all Maruti models with six airbags by year-end, a move expected to influence other manufacturers.
Currently, ten models, including the popular Alto K10, Swift, and Jimny, already come with six airbags in every variant. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki has set a new standard by including Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®) across all 18 of its models, well ahead of upcoming regulatory requirements.
This push for safety comes at a crucial time. According to a recent report by the Global Status Report on Road Safety, nearly 1.35 million people die in road crashes each year worldwide, with many accidents occurring in developing countries like India. By prioritizing vehicle safety, companies like Maruti Suzuki aim to reduce this statistic and improve road conditions across the nation.
As Maruti Suzuki continues to lead the charge for safer vehicles in India, it not only raises the safety bar for sedans but also encourages other automakers to follow suit in delivering safer driving experiences. Awareness and advocacy for enhanced safety features are more vital now than ever.
