Nearly 100 school districts on Long Island are facing scrutiny due to a significant childhood immunization fraud case. This situation is unfolding as New York health officials investigate the actions of Julie Devuono, a nurse practitioner who allegedly forged over 1,500 pediatric vaccination records.
To get into school, students need to receive a series of vaccinations. Devuono had been accused of helping students bypass this requirement by providing false records. She previously pleaded guilty to similar charges in 2023, including selling fake COVID-19 vaccine cards for over a million dollars.
According to a recent Newsday report, 91 of Long Island’s 124 school districts have now been subpoenaed, raising concerns about the scale of this fraudulent activity. Investigators are also looking into districts in Queens, the Bronx, and areas near Albany where Devuono’s fake records may have impacted students.
The 57-year-old former nurse, who operated Wild Child Pediatric Healthcare in Lindenhurst, has faced legal consequences for her actions. She was sentenced to community service in Pennsylvania, where she currently resides, and has surrendered her New York nursing licenses.
Hearings held by the Department of Health are ongoing, with more expected in March. Eyewitness News has reached out to her attorney for further comments but has not yet received a response.
