A recent breach affecting Tea, a dating advice app exclusively for women, turned out to be more serious than initially believed. The company confirmed that hackers accessed users’ direct messages and personal photos in the attack.

In a statement, Tea informed CBS MoneyWatch that they had temporarily taken the affected system offline for safety. The app, which has surged in popularity, especially among Apple users, revealed that the hackers accessed stored data from members uploaded before February 2024. In total, an extra 59,000 images and messages were compromised.

Miracco critiqued Tea for not employing sufficient security measures. “This is fundamental cybersecurity; the company should be held responsible. They rushed to launch and promised safety, only to expose their users,” he added.
