Hundreds of workers were detained last Thursday at a new factory in Georgia that’s set to produce car batteries for Hyundai and Kia’s electric vehicles. This large-scale raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stopped construction at a facility that Georgia’s government had celebrated as the state’s biggest industrial investment.

Initial reports said 450 workers were arrested, but later sources indicated that around 560, including approximately 300 South Korean nationals, were taken into custody. The facility is a joint venture between Hyundai and LG Energy Solution.
