Arc Raiders just launched, and players are diving in, sometimes overwhelming the servers. This PvPvE extraction shooter is gaining traction, not just for its solid gameplay but for its unpredictable challenges. In this game, your main goals are to survive, collect resources, and build powerful loadouts.
With around 50 hours spent in the game, I can say it’s one of the best online shooters I’ve played. Although my runs have primarily been solo, many of these tips apply whether you’re venturing out alone or with friends. Here are 14 essential tips for newcomers to Arc Raiders.
Utilize Free Loadouts Wisely
Don’t overlook the Free Loadout. When you start, you can either craft your gear or opt for the Free Loadout, which includes a primary weapon, ammo, bandages, and more. This option minimizes risk, letting you venture out without losing your valuable gear.
If you fail a mission, you can trade this Free Loadout for a Looting Mk. 1 Augment. This strategy helps maintain a flow of crafting supplies, making it easier to build your collection over time.
Master Fall Damage with a Roll
While Arc Raiders is forgiving with fall damage, timing is everything. Roll just as you hit the ground to negate damage. Some skills in the Mobility tree can assist with this, though beware that not every height is recoverable. Use the dodge wisely to avoid unnecessary health loss.
Stock Up on Rubber Parts
After many runs, I found that Rubber Parts are always in short supply. They’re crucial for upgrading and crafting weapons. You can obtain them from various loot sources with matching icons on the map. Make sure to focus on gathering them during your missions.
Practice Makes Perfect
The quick tutorial doesn’t fully prepare you for gameplay. The Practice Range allows you to test different guns and skills safely. Experiment with attachments, like swapping a Muzzle Brake for a Compensator, to find what suits your playstyle.
Customize Your Controls
If you’re using a mouse and keyboard, consider reassigning your dodge roll to a more accessible key. This change can greatly boost your survival chances. For instance, you might set your roll to a nearby key, freeing up your hand for movement. This adjustment can save your life during intense gameplay.
Pay Attention to Sounds
The sound design in Arc Raiders is top-notch. Running, rummaging, and activating security features make noise that can reveal your position. Birds can also signal nearby players, so stay alert and use sounds to your advantage.
Coordinate with Emotes
You can use emotes to communicate with other players effectively. The “group up” option is particularly useful for leading random players or team members. Simply look down and select it to encourage others to follow you.
Be Mindful When Recycling
Recycling often yields more resources than salvaging, but be cautious with descriptions. Some items like toasters can be recycled into materials, but they might also be needed for upgrades. Track what’s essential for your workshops to avoid losing valuable items.
Know When to Extract
Time is critical in Arc Raiders. If your bag is full, consider extraction. The risks increase if you linger too long with valuable loot. It’s easy to get killed in an unexpected encounter, losing everything you’ve gathered. Play it safe and leave while you’re ahead.
Plan Your Route
Strategizing your path before heading out is vital. Reconnaissance can prevent running into deadly traps like turrets. Use Free Loadouts for scouting to reduce the risk of losing gear prematurely.
Watch Out in Dam Battlegrounds
The first map, Dam Battlegrounds, is often the site of heavy PvP activity. Many new players are there, eager to engage, so stay alert. Players in these areas tend to be more aggressive as they aim to build their skills and gear.
Players Can Be Nice
In this game, players often respond positively. Using the emote wheel to greet others may lead to peaceful encounters. Holstering weapons has become a way to signal trust, so returning the gesture can often diffuse tension.
Get Creative with Gadgets
Embrace the gadgets available to you. Crafting traps and barricades can offer an edge during gameplay. I’ve had success ambushing others with clever setups that catch them off guard. Use these tools to protect yourself when looting.
Utilize Snitches for Strategy
Snitches can summon enemies if they spot you, but they can also divert attention from you to your foes. Learn to use them strategically for distractions. This can give you the upper hand and help you escape difficult situations.
As Arc Raiders grows, I expect to discover even more strategies. For now, these tips should help you navigate this complex and engaging game. Master its systems, and the efforts will pay off in thrilling gameplay experiences.
