Matt Lucas Issues Heartfelt Apology to Millie Bobby Brown Following Her Response to Criticism of Her Appearance

British actor and comedian Matt Lucas recently apologized to Millie Bobby Brown for his comments about her appearance. His remarks followed a statement from the Stranger Things star, who addressed the public scrutiny she faces.

In an Instagram post, Lucas explained his actions. He referenced a character from his old show, Little Britain, named Vicky Pollard, saying he didn’t mean to offend. He pointed out that Brown resembled the character, as they both had blonde hair and wore pink tops. “I thought you looked terrific,” he stated. “I was mortified when I saw that the press said I ‘slammed’ you. That’s not who I am, and I apologize for any upset I caused.”

This apology came a day after Brown shared her thoughts in an Instagram video. She expressed frustration over constant criticism, particularly from so-called journalists. “Growing up in front of the world has its challenges,” she said. “It feels like some people want me to stay the same, as if I should look like the Eleven from Season One of Stranger Things.”

Brown highlighted that headlines from the premiere of her film The Electric State focused on her appearance rather than her talent. “This isn’t journalism. It’s bullying,” she said. She pointed out that some of the critics were women, which she found particularly disappointing. “We talk about lifting each other up, but when it comes to public figures, it’s often easier to tear them down for attention.”

She also emphasized that she won’t shrink herself to meet others’ expectations. “I refuse to be ashamed of how I look or dress. I deserve to grow up without fear of being judged for simply existing.” She called on everyone to treat young women better, urging society to create an environment where they can thrive without harsh criticism.
