"In Q3, I just found a lot of pace," Piastri shared. He acknowledged his earlier struggles but noted that the car felt more responsive towards the end of the session, adding, "The lap was a little bit scruffy, but I’m just pumped."
The challenging track surface also played a role. "It’s pretty tricky, but when you hook it up, it’s pretty mega," he commented. This reflects how crucial tire management is in this sport, as even slight miscalculations can lead to significant setbacks.
Russell’s approach to his tire preparation in Q3 was unconventional, allowing him to outpace Norris by a slim 0.070 seconds. He noted that McLaren had a strong edge over the competition, but his qualifying performance seems to challenge that notion.
Defending champion Max Verstappen will start from fourth place, while Lewis Hamilton trails closely in fifth. The two faced a tough qualifying session, especially after Hamilton’s convincing performance in the sprint race earlier.
In sixth, Charles Leclerc performed well but could not quite match his Ferrari teammate’s pace. Meanwhile, newcomer Isack Hadjar made a remarkable impression, finishing seventh in his debut season.
The grid numbers tell a story of intense competition. Esteban Ocon and other notable drivers like Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon will launch their races from positions just outside the top ten, hinting at a season filled with competitive racing.
