Meet Adam Woodward: The Veteran Caddie Behind Charley Hull’s Success – Dive into His Career, Lifestyle, and More!

During the trophy celebration after winning the Aramco Team Series in Riyadh in 2024, something unexpected happened. While Charley Hull was posing with her trophy, three camels decided to join the photo. Charley, always calm under pressure, hardly reacted. But her caddie, Adam Woodward, took off in a panic, which made for a funny moment that quickly went viral. This scene not only showcased Charley’s cool demeanor but also highlighted the fun character of Woodward, who has been with her for nearly ten years.

This amusing incident shines a light on the often overlooked role of caddies in professional golf. They do much more than just keep track of distances. For Charley Hull, who ranks among the top players on the LPGA Tour, Woodward’s support has been crucial in overcoming both the technical and emotional challenges of the sport since they started working together in 2015.

Adam Woodward: A Journey from Australia to Golf’s Elite

Woodward’s journey began in Cowra, Australia, a quiet town four hours away from Sydney. Growing up around golf, thanks to his father’s role managing the local course, he found his passion early. His professional caddying career started unexpectedly when a family friend, LPGA player Mardi Lunn, offered him a temporary position in 1995.

Initially, Woodward planned to caddy for just a year. At 20, he was unsatisfied with his job in his family’s travel business, so he jumped at the chance to join Lunn. What began as a short-term gig turned into a lasting passion. After six successful years with her, he moved on to caddy for other tours, until he had a breakthrough with South Korean golfer Sun Youn Yoo in 2012 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

He teamed up with Charley Hull in mid-2015, creating a partnership that would thrive on the LPGA Tour. Together, they celebrated wins at the CME Group Tour Championship and the Ascendant LPGA, and more recently at the Aramco Team Series in Riyadh. Their journey included a brief split in 2019, but they reunited in 2020, with Hull calling him her best friend and crediting him with boosting her confidence on the course.

A Unique Bond

The 2023 U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach was a pivotal moment for Charley Hull. With her ball stuck under a tree, she faced a tough decision about her next shot. Just then, Woodward encouraged her, saying, “You can keep it low.” Thanks to that advice, she made a crucial shot that helped secure her second place in the tournament. This exchange highlights the trust that is vital to their working relationship.

“He helps keep me calm and really knows his stuff,” Hull shared. “He’s been on tour for about 25 years, and we started working together in 2015. Between shots, we talk about everything but golf.” This laid-back approach is especially helpful for Hull, who was diagnosed with ADHD in 2023. Woodward’s ability to keep her focused while creating a relaxed atmosphere has been beneficial.

Their partnership has led to some unforgettable moments, including the camel incident. At the 2023 Solheim Cup, Hull humorously ignored Woodward’s celebratory fist bump while swinging, leaving him hanging. More dramatically, after a narrow miss at the 2023 AIG Women’s Open, Woodward had to climb onto Hull’s roof using a trash can and a car hood just to get back inside, while Hull amusedly filmed the whole thing.

As the 2025 season approaches, Hull and Woodward continue to show how valuable a strong player-caddie connection can be, enhancing their performance together. With major championships on the horizon, their ten-year partnership remains strong and entertaining for golf fans around the world.
