BISMARCK, N.D. – Central McLean’s basketball team made a splash last season by earning their first state tournament spot. This year, Senior Forward Adlyn Eng is aiming even higher.
“Going back to state this year would be amazing. We’d feel less nervous since we’ve been there before,” she said.
The Cougars are one of the top teams in the state, and expectations are high. “The last couple of years, we were so close. Last year, we decided we were done watching others go. Our motto was to break down the door and get to the state tournament every year,” shared head coach Ethan Vaagene.
Adlyn faces a big choice ahead: should she pursue college basketball or college track? “I love both sports. It’s tough to choose just one,” she explained.
Coach Vaagene, while a bit partial to basketball, agreed. “She’s a fantastic athlete in both areas,” he said.
Recently, Adlyn celebrated a major milestone: scoring her 1,000th career point. “It took a long time, but I feel great about reaching that goal,” she said excitedly.
Coach Vaagene has been by her side for a long time. “I’ve known these girls since they were in elementary school. Adlyn feels like family to me,” he reflected. “Watching her grow and achieve this has been incredible.”
Adlyn believes their bond makes this achievement even more special. “I think he might have shed a tear. It’s awesome to share this moment with him after all these years,” she said.
