Dr. Tina Sauerhammer Dean, a proud alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, received the University’s highest honor on May 17, 2025. During the 111th commencement ceremony, she was awarded the Chancellor’s Award, which honors those whose achievements and community work truly reflect the University’s mission.
Chancellor Michael Alexander highlighted her incredible journey. “This year, we proudly honor Dr. Tina Sauerhammer Dean, a trailblazing plastic surgeon and community leader,” he said.
Dr. Sauerhammer is a double board-certified plastic surgeon and founded the Wisconsin Institute of Plastic Surgery and Dermatology—Northeast Wisconsin’s first boutique practice. Her path to success started early; she began college at just 14, graduated from UW-Green Bay at 18, and completed medical school by 22.
In 2003, she was crowned Miss Wisconsin and used her title to advocate for organ and tissue donation in memory of her father. Her surgical training includes a general surgery residency at UW Hospital and Clinics and a plastic surgery fellowship at Lahey Clinic, where she contributed to the first full face transplant in the country. She also completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery and worked at Children’s National Medical Center in D.C., leading global outreach efforts.
Dr. Sauerhammer’s impact extends beyond the U.S. She has performed vital reconstructive surgeries in West Africa, Haiti, and Jordan, and her research is recognized internationally. As the only female plastic surgeon in the Fox Valley, she is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has served for a decade on the UW-Green Bay Council of Trustees, including three years as Chair.
Her story inspires many, showcasing how dedication and service can change lives. Congratulations, Dr. Sauerhammer!
