The Regeneron Science Talent Search is back, showcasing some of the brightest young scientific minds in the U.S. This competition highlights high school seniors who demonstrate creativity and leadership through innovative research.

Taking place in 2025, the competition has selected its top 40 finalists from around 2,500 entries. This annual event, now in its 84th year, is the most prestigious STEM competition for high school students in the country.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and the Society for Science lead this initiative. Winners from previous years have achieved remarkable feats, including 13 Nobel Prizes and 23 MacArthur Fellowships. The finalists’ projects this year cover a wide array of crucial topics such as species migration, disease diagnosis using AI, and novel treatments for cancer and genetic disorders.

George D. Yancopoulos, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Regeneron, expressed his admiration for this year’s finalists. Having been a top winner himself years ago, he acknowledges how the competition can transform young talents into future leaders who make a difference in science and healthcare.

This year’s finalists were chosen for their exceptional research, standing out among 300 of the best scholars nationwide. They are dedicated to addressing significant societal issues, showcasing their drive and talent in various fields of science.

Maya Ajmera, President of Society for Science, celebrated the achievements of this group, affirming that they represent future innovations that can change the economy and society for the better.

The finalists will compete for over $1.8 million in awards during the week of March 6-12, 2025. They will present their research to the public and engage with leading scientists. The top 10 winners will be announced during a live-streamed ceremony on March 11, 2025, from Washington, D.C.

More than $3 million will be awarded in total. Each finalist will receive at least $25,000, with the top award reaching $250,000. This program not only rewards individual achievements but also supports educational initiatives at their schools, encouraging future scientific exploration.
