Meet Armand Membou: Jets’ 1st Round Draft Pick at No. 7 Under Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey

The New York Jets made a significant move in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Missouri tackle Armand Membou with the seventh overall pick. This pick marks a new chapter for the team under head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.

Shortly after being chosen, Membou expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s just a big relief and definitely a blessing.” He had a strong feeling he’d end up with the Jets, describing their young, promising team as a perfect fit for him.

This year marks the second consecutive draft where the Jets focused their first pick on building their offensive line. Last year, they selected Penn State’s Olu Fashanu at the 11th spot.

Membou, standing at 6-4 and weighing 332 pounds, was one of the top tackles available and had a stellar college career at Missouri. Over two seasons, he played in every game, earned second-team All-SEC honors, and showcased his skills at the Senior Bowl. Impressively, he did not allow a single sack or quarterback hit during the 411 pass-blocking snaps he played in 2024.

At the NFL Combine, Membou turned heads with his performance. He clocked the fastest 40-yard dash time for an offensive lineman over 330 pounds since 2003, at 4.91 seconds. NFL Research highlights this as a notable achievement, emphasizing his combination of speed and strength. Membou stated, “I’m not just fast. I’m strong, too.” His agility was further demonstrated by a remarkable 9-7 broad jump, also the best among his peers this year.

Experts have taken notice of Membou’s potential. NFL.com analyst Nick Shook noted that he is “incredibly light on his feet” for someone of his size, suggesting that he has the tools to succeed in the NFL. Brian Baldinger, another analyst, predicted that Membou “is a guy that I think is going to play in this league for a long time.”

Joining the Jets’ offensive line means Membou will compete with established players like Olu Fashanu and newcomers such as Chukwuma Okorafor for the right tackle position, protecting mobile quarterback Justin Fields.

Born to a family from Cameroon and raised in Lee’s Summit, MO, Membou excelled in multiple sports during high school, showcasing his versatility. Interestingly, this is the first time the Jets have selected seventh overall in their draft history, a unique milestone for the franchise.

Membou is the 10th player from Missouri to be drafted by the Jets, following notable picks like Sheldon Richardson, a Pro Bowl defensive lineman during his time with the team. This history illustrates the Jets’ long-standing interest in talent from Mizzou and reflects their commitment to strengthening their roster through powerful young players.
