Brigham Young University (BYU) has named Audrey Perry Martin as its new spokesperson, effective June 1. This decision follows the retirement of Carri Jenkins, who served in that role for many years.
Audrey brings a wealth of experience to the position. She is a partner at Lex Politica, a political law firm, where she advises clients on campaign and election laws. Her impressive background includes work with the Federal Election Commission, Congress, and various legal firms in Washington, D.C., and California.
She has also gained significant experience in presidential campaigns, serving as legal counsel for McCain-Palin in 2008 and as deputy general counsel for Romney’s 2008 campaign. Additionally, she contributed to Romney’s 2012 bid as a consultant. Audrey was also involved with the Committee on House Administration as legal counsel and has taught at BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School.
Audrey is the founder and CEO of Project Elect, a nonprofit that encourages Latter-day Saint women to pursue political office. Byrigham Young University President C. Shane Reese expressed confidence in her abilities, stating that her communication skills and commitment to BYU’s mission will be invaluable. “She’s excited to share the story of our students who learn through both study and faith,” he said.
Carri Jenkins, who Audrey is succeeding, led University Communications through significant moments in BYU’s history. President Reese acknowledged her contributions, noting how much she will be missed—adding that her wisdom was a great asset to the university.
Audrey holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and earned her undergraduate degrees in political science and journalism from BYU. During her time as a student, she contributed to the student newspaper, The Daily Universe, showcasing her passion for communication from an early age.
