COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The University of Maryland (UMD) just welcomed Diana Sabau as their new senior deputy athletics director. Diana’s focus will be on the daily operations of the Terrapin athletic department, including contract negotiations, introducing fresh strategies, and scheduling for UMD football.
She starts her new role on July 28, after serving as athletics director and vice president at Utah State University (USU) since 2023.
In her own words, Diana expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m incredibly honored to join the Maryland athletic department and work with our staff and student-athletes. Returning to a conference I know and love is special to me. This is a dynamic time for college athletics, and I want to help drive growth and a culture centered around our student-athletes.”
Working closely with UMD’s coaches and staff, she aims to strengthen team collaboration. “I look forward to building on our momentum together,” she said.

Before her time at USU, Diana was a senior deputy athletics director at Ohio State University. She has a strong background in college sports, having served as the chief sports officer and deputy commissioner for the Big Ten Conference.
