The UNMC College of Allied Health Professions has chosen Dr. Tammy Webster as the finalist for its dean position. This announcement came from Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, the dean of the College of Nursing and chair of the search committee. The selection followed a thorough search process.
Dr. Webster has been serving as the executive associate dean since August 2025 and is also a professor in the college. Before this role, she was the associate dean for academic affairs. Her background includes positions that emphasize leadership and academic excellence.
This month, Dr. Webster will connect with campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students through both in-person and virtual meetings. These discussions aim to foster engagement across various groups. One notable event is a presentation on March 9 at the Omaha campus, which will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
Dr. Webster’s credentials include being a University of Nebraska Developing Excellence in Academic Leaders (NU DEAL) fellow. She’s taken on several leadership roles within UNMC, such as serving as a faculty coach and co-chair of the Education Council. Recently, she earned a graduate certificate in education law and policy from the University of Georgia.
Before entering administration, Dr. Webster was recognized nationally as an educator. She directed several important programs, including radiography. Her work has even been highlighted on the cover of ASRT Scanner, a magazine from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
The new dean will succeed Dr. Kyle Meyer, who plans to step down in 2026 after leading the college since its inception in 2015. Dr. Meyer will remain involved in other significant roles, addressing health workforce initiatives.
It’s worth noting that allied health professionals make up about 60% of the U.S. healthcare workforce. At UNMC, the College of Allied Health Professions offers 14 programs and ranks second in enrollment compared to other colleges. It has also gained recognition as a leader in distance education and rural health.
This leadership transition is crucial for the college, especially considering the growing enrollment and support it has experienced in recent years. With Dr. Webster at the helm, there’s potential for continued growth and innovation in allied health education.
