Emily Suski has been named the new dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law, starting July 1. She takes over from Dean Cynthia Nance, who has served as interim dean and will return to full-time faculty.
Provost Indrajeet Chaubey expressed excitement about Suski’s appointment, highlighting her leadership experience in legal education and her work in medical-legal partnerships in South Carolina. These partnerships aim to enhance children’s health and well-being.
Suski has been with the University of South Carolina School of Law since 2016. In her previous roles, she focused on clinics and externships and helped establish the Carolina Health Advocacy Medicolegal Partnership. Before her time in South Carolina, she taught at Georgia State University, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the University of Virginia. She also worked as a staff attorney for the JustChildren Program.
In her own words, Suski expressed gratitude for the opportunity and looks forward to collaborating with the faculty and students at the University of Arkansas. She also noted her admiration for Dean Nance and her contributions to the law school.
Suski teaches various subjects, including education and health law, and has published in respected journals like the Stanford Law Review and the California Law Review. She holds an LLM from Georgetown University and has a Juris Doctor and master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina.
This transition reflects a broader trend in legal education. Many law schools are increasing their focus on interdisciplinary work, combining legal knowledge with public health, education, and social work. Recent studies show that law schools are adopting more holistic approaches to educate future lawyers, recognizing the interconnectedness of these fields.
