Meet Heidi Crncan: A Promising Freshman Kicks Off Her Journey with a Victory at University of Colorado Athletics

Heidi Crncan: Starting Strong as a Colorado Buffalo

Heidi Crncan, a freshman tennis player from Wolverhampton, England, is making her mark at the University of Colorado. She kicked off her college career with a win, showcasing her potential right from the start.

“It’s been incredible to play my first dual match as a Buff,” she said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity my coaches gave me. I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning.”

With a current record of 9-5 in singles, Crncan is settling in nicely in Colorado. Moving from England wasn’t easy, but the support from her teammates and coaches made it more manageable.

“The transition was scary but exciting,” she noted. “I’ve bonded really well with everyone, and having a team to train and compete with every day makes challenges feel easier.”

Her head coach, Anthony Pham, praised her hard work and positive attitude. “Heidi is a great kid who has improved tremendously in a short time,” he said, emphasizing her dedication and cheerful demeanor.

Crncan’s first matches came during the Bedford Cup, where she went 2-2, reaching the consolation finals. Shortly after, she achieved three consecutive singles victories at the ITA Regional Championship.

She has also found a sense of community among her teammates. “The whole team has helped the freshmen a lot,” Crncan shared. “We’ve integrated well, and the seniors always encourage us to be our best, both on and off the court.”

On the doubles side, Crncan has had some success as well. She teamed up with Lani Brotman for a win at the Pioneer Dual and also secured victories alongside Willow Gretsch at the Bonita Bay Classic and against St. Thomas.

“I’m really looking forward to the spring season,” Crncan said. “We’ve trained hard and support each other. I feel proud to be part of this team, and I believe we can achieve great things together.”

With Crncan’s determination and the team’s spirit, there’s a lot to expect in the upcoming matches. The Buffs will soon head to Las Vegas for a three-match weekend, facing UNLV, Gonzaga, and Utah Tech.

Crncan embodies the Buff spirit, and her journey at Colorado has just begun. As she continues to develop, there’s no doubt she’ll have a significant impact on her team. For follow-ups and live results, check in at @cubuffstennis.
