Maui Food Bank has welcomed Justin George as its new Major Gifts Director. This move comes at an important time, as food security is a vital issue in Maui County.
With over 20 years in fundraising and donor relations, George is well-equipped for his new role. Before joining Maui Food Bank, he was the Director of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association in Hawaiʻi. There, he spearheaded key fundraising efforts and built lasting relationships with donors.
“I’m excited to be part of an organization that is dedicated to ending hunger in Maui,” George said. “It’s a privilege to connect with our donors and hear their inspiring stories.”
In his first month, George has been diving into the Food Bank’s programs. He’s assessing how they are funded and exploring ways to boost philanthropic support. He plans to introduce new donor recognition levels in 2026 to enhance engagement with supporters.
A highlight for George is Da Market Lahaina, which has been crucial in providing fresh food and essentials to families impacted by the August 2023 wildfires. “The need is still great as our community works to recover from these challenges,” he noted.
George’s background includes co-founding GS Events Hawaiʻi, where he organized major sporting and nonprofit events. He’s also been involved with the Sony Open in Hawaiʻi and various community service groups.
He stresses that donor support is crucial now more than ever. “Our donors and partners play a key role in our mission for a hunger-free Maui,” he said.
Established in 1994, Maui Food Bank is the main resource for hunger relief in the region. It collaborates with over 100 partners to distribute nutritious food to those in need, including low-income families, seniors, and individuals at risk of hunger.
