BATON ROUGE, La. – Keonte’ Herrera from LSU Athletics Communications has been named a 2025 College Sports Communicators’ Rising Star Award recipient.
Since joining LSU in September 2021, Herrera has been in charge of communications for the volleyball and softball teams. His work supports head coaches Tonya Johnson and Beth Torina.
The Rising Star Award has recognized outstanding professionals in athletic communications since 2006. It celebrates those with less than 10 years of experience whose talent and enthusiasm shine in their roles.
All award winners will be honored at the CSC Unite 2025 convention, which will be held from June 8 to 11 in Orlando, Florida.
Herrera has been involved with College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) since 2015. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Career Services Committee and is active in educating college students about sports communications through the CSC U Committee.
In addition, he holds a leadership position in the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA) and serves on the Awards Committee for the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).
Before his time at LSU, Herrera spent two-and-a-half years at Texas State University. There, he covered impressive championship runs for several sports, including three for volleyball and two for track and field.
His career began in NCAA Division II, where he worked at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and St. Edward’s University.
Herrera is a Louisiana native. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2014 and later achieved a Master’s in coaching and sports administration from Angelo State University in 2016.
