Arkansas Tech University recently announced that Dr. John H. Lewis will take on the role of vice president for enrollment management starting January 1, 2026. This decision was shared by President Dr. Russell Jones on November 21.
Dr. Lewis has a solid background in enrollment management. Most recently, he was the vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life at UA-Pulaski Technical College. During his leadership there, the college saw a notable 7.8% rise in enrollment this fall, which was the largest growth among Arkansas’s two-year colleges.
Dr. Jones praised Lewis, emphasizing his ability to connect with students across the state and his commitment to making higher education accessible. “His strong background in financial aid is vital for maintaining affordability and access at Arkansas Tech,” said Jones.
Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science in wildlife management and ecology, a Master of Public Administration, and a Doctor of Education in higher and adult education. His career in education began as a financial aid counselor at Arkansas State University. He progressed through roles at various institutions, including the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and Christian Brothers University, where he gained valuable experience in financial aid.
Before joining UA-Pulaski Technical College, he served as the dean of admissions and financial aid, where he focused on enhancing student engagement and support. His teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member further complements his administrative roles.
As the new vice president for enrollment management at Arkansas Tech, Lewis will lead efforts in admissions, recruiting, financial aid, and marketing. He is motivated by the university’s dedication to student success. “Enrollment management is about more than just numbers; it’s about creating pathways for students,” he stated.
This change comes at a time when student enrollment trends are shifting nationally, with many institutions adapting to a more competitive landscape. A recent report highlights that more than half of college students are now considering community colleges due to rising costs at four-year universities. Lewis’s role becomes even more crucial as he works to attract and retain students in this changing environment.
