The University of Virginia has appointed Mitchell Rosner, MD, as its executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UVA Health. This three-year term follows his role as interim EVP for seven months.
Rosner expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s an incredible honor. My career has been devoted to UVA and UVA Health. This is a chance to serve my colleagues and community.” His selection came after over two dozen faculty members at UVA Health requested that he be appointed permanently.
Leaders praised Rosner for building trust and providing stability during a challenging period. Paul Mahoney, UVA’s interim president, stressed the importance of Rosner’s leadership. “He is the right person to lead UVA’s health system forward,” he said.
Taison Bell, MD, interim chair of the UVA Department of Medicine, noted Rosner’s exceptional leadership qualities. He described Rosner as approachable, open, and someone who genuinely values others’ opinions. “He listens carefully and includes everyone in decisions,” Bell said. “His commitment to people sets him apart.”
Rosner boasts a rich background, having been a faculty member for 21 years. He served as chair of the Department of Medicine before his promotion. He has also published seven books and more than 200 articles in medical journals.
With this new role, Rosner is eager to strengthen UVA Health’s core services and support its dedicated staff. He highlighted the hospital’s commitment to patient care: “When patients come to us, they can trust that we will care for them deeply with expertise.”
This emphasis on patient experience is timely, as many healthcare systems nationwide are focusing on improving care quality. According to a recent survey by the American Hospital Association, 77% of hospital leaders identified enhancing patient experience as a top priority for the coming years.
As healthcare evolves, leadership like Rosner’s can significantly impact organizational success. His experience and dedication may set a positive tone for UVA Health, further solidifying it as a premier institution in medical care.
