Meet Raegan Miller: University High’s Charismatic 2025 Lilac Queen Crowned!

Raegan Miller, a senior from University High School, was named queen of the 2025 Royal Court at a lively coronation event organized by the Spokane Lilac Festival Association. The audience at Spokane Community College cheered as she received her crown, sash, purple cape, and a bouquet of flowers, marking the start of her year representing the community.

Miller shares the spotlight with her fellow Lilac Princesses: Abby Thorleifson from Mead High School, Addy Fazio from Northwest Christian High School, Bethany Olstad from Ridgeline High School, Charlize Thomas from Central Valley High School, Paige Tobin from North Central High School, and Savanna Potts from Lewis and Clark High School.

After receiving her crown, Miller expressed gratitude to those who supported her, saying, “I couldn’t have done it without all of these girls next to me.”

Each year, senior girls from Spokane County high schools select representatives for the Royal Court. They participate in an eight-week program focused on developing skills such as leadership, time management, and interview techniques. In early March, the top seven candidates were chosen after interviews. These princesses have already begun their community service, including participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

During the selection process, candidates delivered speeches on how they’ve contributed to their communities. Thorleifson highlighted her clothing drive, which aims to provide business outfits to those in need, noting, “It’s incredible how something as simple as the right outfit can create an opportunity.”

Miller shared her experiences working with special needs students, including coaching Unified Sports teams. “These students just want to be treated equally,” she said. She encouraged everyone to foster belonging by simply engaging with them in everyday situations.

Tobin remarked on the impact of small actions, sharing, “The more I’ve given, the more I’ve received.” Each participant boasts impressive achievements, including high academic performance, sports involvement, and community service. They have plans in fields like education, medicine, and business.

This year’s coronation also saw the outgoing Lilac Court pass on their crowns while reflecting on their experiences. Madeline Froese, the 2024 Lilac Queen, spoke warmly of her time as an ambassador for Spokane: "My heart is filled to the brim. This organization has done more for me than I could have ever imagined.”

Looking ahead, Miller and her court will take part in the 87th annual Armed Forces Torchlight Parade on May 17, continuing the tradition of celebrating and serving the Spokane community.

In the current climate, events like this not only foster community spirit but also highlight the importance of engagement and support among youth. According to a recent study by the National Conference on Citizenship, volunteering among young people has increased by nearly 30% over the past five years, showcasing a growing trend of activism and service.
