Eight new experts have joined the Council for Science and Technology (CST), which provides advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet on important science and tech issues.
The CST focuses on strategic policies that span various government departments.
Professor Dame Angela McLean, the Chief Scientific Adviser and Co-Chair of CST, shared her excitement:
These eight individuals bring a wealth of experience in fields like AI, data, chemical engineering, and venture capital. I believe their insights will enhance the Council’s role in guiding national priorities in science and technology. I look forward to working together on diverse topics to strengthen the UK’s position in these areas.
Meet the new members:
Mark Enzer OBE is a Strategic Advisor at Mott MacDonald. He teaches at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London.
Professor Dame Lynn Gladden DBE holds the Shell Professorship in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and has previously led the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Priya Lakhani OBE is the Founder and CEO of CENTURY Tech and co-founder of the Institute for Ethical AI in education.
Avid Larizadeh Duggan OBE works as a Senior Managing Director at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. She also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Barclays Bank UK.
Professor (Emeritus) Nick McKeown is associated with Intel Corporation, Stanford University, and Oxford University, focusing on electrical engineering and computer science.
Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and co-founder of the Open Data Institute.
Richard Slater is the Chief R&D Officer for Unilever and has held senior roles at GSK Consumer Healthcare. He also directs Future Origins.
Paul Taylor CBE is with Morgan Stanley International as a director and chairs multiple organizations, including Interrupt Labs Ltd and Beyond Blue.
