Colorado Springs, CO (February 13, 2025)—USA Ultimate has announced the 34 athletes selected for a second tryout for the U.S. National Team. This team will represent the United States at the World Games next summer.
After the first tryout, where 78 players from across the nation competed, the coaches narrowed down the list. The next round of tryouts will be held in San Antonio, Texas, giving players another chance to secure a spot on the 14-person team heading to Chengdu, China, in August.
The World Games is a major international event that takes place every four years. It features various sports, including ultimate frisbee, which is played as a mixed-gender competition. This year, eight teams will compete: Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, and the United States.
The ultimate tournament will be held from August 12-16, during the World Games, which will run from August 7-17. Team USA enters the tournament as the defending champion, having won gold in every World Games since 2005. They have an impressive overall record of 30 wins and 5 losses, with five gold medals and a silver medal from 2001.
Among the 34 players invited for the second tryout, ten competed in the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. These experienced players include Claire Chastain, Khalif El-Salaam, Carolyn Finney, Dylan Freechild, Kaela Helton, Chris Kocher, Grant Lindsley, Sarah Meckstroth, Carolyn Normile, and Claire Trop.
Notably, Finney, Freechild, Lindsley, and Kocher are aiming for their third World Games appearance, having also played in 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland.
Head coach Matty Tsang will lead the team, supported by assistant coaches Miranda Knowles and Nancy Sun, along with selection assistant Carlos Lopez.
