High Point, N.C. – The Big South Conference has unveiled its Top Returners to Watch List for the upcoming 2025 season. High Point University’s standout players are making headlines: goalkeepers are Kawsten Resker, Sabba Haghgoo, Aubrey McKessy, Kari Powell, and Caroline Dewey.
“It’s great to see our players recognized before the season starts,” said Head Coach Aaron McGuiness. “This acknowledgment boosts their confidence as we prepare for the games ahead.”
Player Spotlight
Aubrey McKessy, Gr., Goalkeeper
McKessy, last season’s Big South Newcomer of the Year, had an impressive run, starting 17 games with a goals-against average of 1.06. She led the Big South with eight shutouts and earned her first win against West Georgia. Her solid performance will be crucial as she anchors the Panthers’ defense.
Sabba Haghgoo, So., Forward
In her debut season, Haghgoo made a splash, scoring six goals, with five in league play. She netted game-winners against teams like Winthrop and Presbyterian. Her efforts earned her the title of Big South Freshman of the Year, a notable achievement in HPU history.
Caroline Dewey, So., Defender
Dewey played all nine games last season, showcasing her skills on defense. She logged 699 minutes and had a standout moment with two shots in one match against UNC Asheville.
Kari Powell, R-So., Midfielder
Powell started in every game during her redshirt year and notched her first collegiate goal against Presbyterian. With 1,281 minutes on the field, she earned a spot on the Big South All-Freshman Team, and her academic achievements also won her recognition on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Kasey Resker, So., Defender
Resker made a notable impact in her first season, appearing in 15 games and notching three assists. Her assists came during key matches, contributing significantly to the team’s overall performance.
Looking Ahead
The Panthers kick off their season with a match against No. 14 Virginia Tech on August 14. Fans can expect exciting performances from these recognized players as they aim to make their mark in the 2025 season.
