The African Climate Innovation Challenge (ACIC) has announced its winners for 2025, showcasing the creativity and drive of young entrepreneurs across the continent. This initiative empowers African youth to tackle climate change through innovative business ideas.
The pitch event, held on November 29, 2025, in Kampala, Uganda, was the final step in a year-long selection process. It involved calls for applications, training, and mentorship, culminating in the announcement of the five winning startups. These innovators come from diverse countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Madagascar, highlighting the continent’s potential in addressing global challenges.
This competition focuses not just on awards but on real support. Winners receive financial backing, tailored business training, and peer mentorship to help scale their ideas. According to a recent survey by the United Nations, youth-led initiatives have proven to be effective in driving sustainable change, making ACIC’s focus on young people especially timely and relevant.

The Bigger Picture
Africa faces significant challenges with climate change and waste management. Despite housing a fifth of the world’s population, the continent attracts only 3% of global energy investments. Given the urgency of climate issues, it’s essential for investment in green solutions to double by 2030. Supporting young entrepreneurs through competitions like ACIC can lead to innovative solutions that not only benefit local communities but also contribute to global sustainability efforts.
As social media trends show growing support for environmental initiatives, businesses and young leaders must leverage this moment. ACIC recognizes that harnessing youthful energy and ideas can unlock potentially transformative solutions for climate resilience in Africa.
The ACIC serves as a reminder of the importance of innovation in facing climate challenges. By empowering the next generation, we are taking steps towards a sustainable future for Africa and beyond.
