Giorgio Chiellini, a star from Italy’s national football team and Juventus, took center stage at the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games. The games officially began on January 13 at the stunning Inalpi Arena, even though some events, like ice hockey and snowboarding, had started earlier.
The opening ceremony was a spectacular blend of fun and artistry. Audiences witnessed thrilling acrobatics, vibrant dance performances, and colorful light displays. A young boy walking with a pillow added a touch of innocence, while pianist Giovanni Allegri mesmerized everyone with his talent.
Over 54 nations participated, each delegation proudly showcasing their flags. Athletes took photos and some even performed flips and figure skating moves to entertain the crowd. When the Italian team entered, the arena erupted with cheers.
The ceremony included important moments like Italian figure skating icon Carolina Kostner carrying her country’s flag. Brief speeches were delivered by Alessandro Ciro Sciretti, the Organising Committee President, FISU President Leonz Eder, and Italy’s Minister for Sport, Andrea Abodi, who officially declared the games open.
In the audience, student-athletes enjoyed impressive performances by Cirque du Soleil and magician Magnus Utopia, adding to the night’s magic.
The event concluded with Chiellini carrying the torch, which lit a drone that flew around the arena, creating a breathtaking red glow. The drone then headed to the historical center of Torino to ignite a flame that will burn for the next ten days.
