Meet the Fox Chapel Couple Transforming Community Life with Curbside on the Run in O’Hara

June 9—When you visit Curbside on the Run, don’t worry about leaving hungry or thirsty. This vibrant cafe in O’Hara has a lot to offer. Its lively murals and the friendly smiles of co-owners Kylee Witchey and Avia Benzion welcome you as you approach.

Witchey began her journey with Curbside Coffeehouse back in 2008 after taking over an existing cafe in Blawnox. At just 21, she faced many challenges but grew with the experience. “I feel happy and this is what I want to be doing,” she reflects. The cafe has evolved into a fresh-food concept, and the menu changes daily.

Inside, you’ll find a variety of made-to-order meals and grab-and-go options. From decadent desserts to the latest heat-and-eat meals and salad flights, the choices are vast. Their full-service coffee bar serves a range of drinks, with new items featured monthly. However, keep in mind that Curbside is takeout only, with no indoor seating or public restrooms.

Curbside offers breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., closing at 2 p.m. “We still have fan-favorites like the Curbside chicken salad and our chocolate chip cookies,” says Witchey. Customers appreciate both the familiar and innovative options, like the Vampire Slayer Breakfast Sammie, loaded with bacon, egg, and cheese on a pretzel bun slathered in paquillo pepper jam.

The cafe’s recent move to its current location at 1101 Powers Run Road came with relief for Witchey, who had faced challenging landlord issues in Blawnox. “I can truly be Curbside here. There are no restrictions; it feels like home,” she shares. The move has fostered new regulars and a stronger community presence. “I have lived in Fox Chapel since 2009, so this feels like a natural next step,” she says.

The couple decided to close on weekends after noticing lines getting too long. “We want everyone to enjoy their meals without long waits,” Benzion explains. The cafe’s growing social media following reflects its success, with customers actively sharing their experiences online.

Staff member Sydney Mealey adds seasonal fun, like a Fruity Pebble-flavored Pride Drink for June. “Everything is fresh,” Witchey emphasizes, describing innovative salad mixes and unique flavors. “I love experimenting with textures and tastes.”

With a commitment to providing a positive work environment, Witchey and Benzion run their business together, blending their skills. Witchey is hands-on in the kitchen, while Benzion supports with her part-time role as a licensed psychotherapist and her cooking initiatives in the back kitchen.

As faithful customers return, Witchey finds joy in seeing their lives evolve. “People who came when I started now have kids graduating high school. It feels like a community,” she says.
