Indian Railways has launched a humanoid robot called “ASC ARJUN” at Visakhapatnam Railway Station. This aims to boost passenger safety and improve services.
This initiative is a first for Indian Railways. ASC ARJUN will team up with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to assist during busy times. It showcases Indian Railways’ dedication to using new technology for better public service.
The robot is home-grown, developed entirely in Visakhapatnam. A dedicated team worked on this project for over a year, highlighting the railway’s ability to embrace advanced technology.
ASC ARJUN is equipped with a Face Recognition System (FRS) and AI-based crowd monitoring. It can detect intrusions and send real-time alerts to the RPF control rooms. The robot also makes automated announcements in English, Hindi, and Telugu, guiding passengers and promoting safety awareness.
Designed for efficiency, ASC ARJUN patrols predefined paths. It can avoid obstacles and works around the clock, enhancing surveillance while freeing up human resources. Additionally, it has fire and smoke detection systems, allowing quick responses in emergencies.
The robot isn’t just a security tool; it’s built for passenger interaction. It offers friendly gestures, like a “namaste,” and has an easy interface for assistance.
Experts believe that integrating AI in public transport could make a significant difference. For instance, a 2022 survey by Deloitte found that 80% of people are more likely to use transport systems that incorporate technology for safety and efficiency.
Indian Railways aims to create a safer and more user-friendly environment for passengers across the country. With the introduction of ASC ARJUN, they are taking a big step toward achieving that goal.
