With bright red and blue markings on their backs, they resemble other fancy spiders like the kicking peacock spider (Maratus calcitrans) and fingers peacock spider (Maratus digitatus). What makes the sparklemuffin special? It has a little flap on its abdomen that reveals iridescent blue scales when extended.

But it’s not just their appearance that impresses. Male sparklemuffins also put on a lively courtship dance. Their name, jactatus, translates to “rocking” in Latin, reflecting their energetic moves.
