HBO’s new horror series, It: Welcome to Derry, is not for the faint of heart. This eight-episode show takes us back to 1962, exploring the origins of Pennywise, the sinister clown we know from the It films.

Director Andy Muschietti, along with his sister Barbara and co-showrunner Jason Fuchs, didn’t shy away from intense horror. “We wanted to surprise the audience. Barbara added that she was surprised by the studio’s support. “I kept waiting for them to push back, but they loved what we presented.” Their creative freedom has allowed them to explore the darker side of storytelling.

Taylour Paige, who plays a mother in the series, shared her unique experience watching. Fresh from childbirth, she found the show overwhelming. “If you’re going to do it, go all the way,” she said, capturing the essence of their raw storytelling.

Chris Chalk, portraying an Army soldier, echoed this sentiment. “There are scenes that are truly disturbing,” he noted. This commitment to pushing boundaries is a central theme of the show.

Fuchs reflected on the darker themes within the story. “It’s about the darkness inside all of us,” he explained. This deeper exploration of fear and inner struggles could resonate with many viewers, especially as horror continues to evolve.

Statistically, horror shows are gaining popularity. A recent survey found that 70% of viewers enjoy a good scare, and “It: Welcome to Derry” seems poised to tap into that enthusiasm.
