WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Pennsylvania College of Technology recently welcomed Kathleen M. Swank as its new director of residence life. She takes over from Timothy J. Mallery, who retired in May.
Swank joins Penn College after a successful tenure at Penn State, where she held various roles in residence life, including assistant director. Her journey also includes experience at Mount St. Mary’s University and positions at the University of Missouri and Emory University.
Swank holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of South Carolina.
According to Kate Hummel, the senior director of campus life and residential experience at Penn College, “Kate brings a unique mix of strategic leadership and practical experience. Her focus on inclusion and student development is exactly what we need.”
Interestingly, research indicates that effective residence life leadership can enhance student retention by up to 20%. This highlights the crucial role Swank will play in shaping student experiences on campus.
