Meet Tiana Johnson: APSU’s New Director of Sports Nutrition Revolutionizing Athletics at Austin Peay State University!

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University has appointed Tiana Johnson as the new Director of Sports Nutrition. Gerald Harrison, the Vice President and Director of Athletics, expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of proper nutrition for student-athletes. He believes Tiana will play a crucial role in helping them perform well both in sports and academics.

Tiana started her journey in sports nutrition as an intern at Washington State University in 2022. There, she organized weekly educational programs to teach athletes about the benefits of good nutrition and how it helps their performance. She also created meal plans and assisted with various needs like sweat testing and weigh-ins.

After her internship at Washington State, Tiana gained more experience as a community nutrition intern at Spokane Public Schools and as a clinical dietitian intern at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Tiana hails from Kalispell, Montana. She has a strong background in athletics, having played basketball at Sacramento State from 2017 to 2021 and then at the University of Idaho from 2021 to 2023. During her time with the Hornets, she participated in 83 games and averaged nearly 9 points and 5 rebounds per game. At Idaho, she excelled even further, starting in 54 out of 56 games and improving her averages to 9.5 points and 5.1 rebounds, with impressive shooting percentages.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food – dietetics from Sacramento State, which she earned in May 2021, and a master’s in dietetics from Idaho, obtained in May 2023. Additionally, Tiana passed the Commission on Dietetics Registration Exam in 2023, further solidifying her expertise in the field.
