Mel Brooks just shared exciting news at CinemaCon: the title for his upcoming Spaceballs sequel! It’s called Spaceballs: The New One. This was revealed during a video presentation on Wednesday night.
This sequel follows Brooks’ iconic 1987 parody of Star Wars, where he both directed and co-wrote the film. Fans will be happy to see familiar faces returning, including Rick Moranis, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and even Brooks himself.
The new cast brings fresh energy, featuring Lewis Pullman—who has appeared in Thunderbolts and Top Gun: Maverick—along with Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, and Anthony Carrigan. While their exact roles are under wraps, it’s rumored that Lewis will portray the son of his father’s character, Lone Starr.
During the presentation, the first footage of the film excitedly teased audiences with clips described as making “little sense out of context.” One memorable moment featured a Na’vi character from Avatar sharing a humorous scene with Moranis.
The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum, with a script penned by Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez. It’s set for release on April 23, 2027, under Amazon MGM Studios.
Gad hinted at the screenplay’s quality back in 2024, expressing his excitement on Instagram about what he considers one of his best works yet. He wrote about the joy of collaborating with Samit and Hernandez, calling it “heaven on Earth.”
