In the last race of the 2025 New Balance Grand Prix, Melissa Courtney-Bryant from Great Britain seized victory in Boston, setting a new world-leading time.
This was her first indoor race of the year, and she didn’t disappoint. Courtney-Bryant finished with a remarkable time of 8:28.69, making it the second-fastest in British history.
Throughout the 15 laps, Courtney-Bryant showed great focus. For most of the race, she stayed just behind American runner Elise Cranny. But when it mattered, she sprinted the final 200 meters in an impressive 31.62 seconds—this was the second-fastest lap time of the entire race.
Her stellar performance not only earned her the win but also helped nine other women achieve personal bests. Among them was Sarah Healy, who set a new Irish national record with a time of 8:35.19, finishing in fourth place.
At 31 years old, Courtney-Bryant now stands alongside Laura Muir as one of only two British women to run the 3000 meters indoors in under 8:30. She is also one of just 23 women worldwide to achieve this milestone.
