Get ready for The Goat, a thrilling golf tournament hosted by the Navy, happening on September 20-21 at the beautiful Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Maryland. The course stretches to 7,025 yards with a par of 71, making it a challenging yet enjoyable venue for players and fans alike.
This year, 16 teams will compete, featuring schools like Bucknell, Harvard, and UConn. Among these, Bucknell is eager to make its mark, as they join four other Patriot League teams in the mix. They’ll start the tournament in a strong pairing with George Washington and Harvard, showcasing a lineup that includes standout players like Jack Hartman, Patrick Pritsios, Taylor Kuehn, James Robbins, and Henry Bolster.
Jack Hartman, a local talent from Bethesda, is one to watch. He recently earned the title of Patriot League Rookie of the Year, finishing third at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. Notably, he had a fantastic round of 2-under 214. Alongside him, Kuehn, who just transferred from Samford, has already made an impression with a top-20 finish in his early days at Bucknell.
Bucknell has had a busy September, placing T-4th at the previous tournament and landing eighth at the Blue Hen Invitational. Hartman’s performance has been consistent, with four of his six rounds being even par or better. The team’s strong start has led to a team scoring average of 72.8 for Hartman.
To make things even more exciting, last year’s individual champion, Gustavo Rangel from Loyola, will also return to defend his title. The inaugural team champions, Pacific, took the crown in 2024 with a total score of 851, setting the bar high for this year’s competitors.
As Bucknell prepares for The Goat, it won’t be long before they head to the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational on September 29-30. This event, hosted by West Virginia at Mystic Rock Resort, promises more excitement as the Bison strive to leave their mark this season.
Golf tournaments like this not only bring together fierce competition but also create a sense of community among players and fans, echoing a rich tradition in college athletics. As we follow Bucknell and other teams, it’ll be fascinating to see how their journey unfolds throughout the season.
