Boston University Men’s Swimming & Diving Team Claims Victory Over Bucknell
On Saturday, the Boston University men’s swimming and diving team celebrated a strong win against Bucknell, finishing with a score of 172.5 to 127.5 at the FitRec Competition Pool. This marks their second consecutive victory over Bucknell.
Sophomore Giovanni Sullo stood out, winning both the 1000 and 500 freestyle events. He recorded times of 9:42.25 for the 1000 and 4:39.83 for the 500. Freshman Nathan Lee also made a splash, clinching his first two collegiate wins in the 200 and 100 freestyle races with times of 1:40.59 and 45.98, respectively.
Freshman diver Ethan Wong showcased his talent as well, winning both diving events. He scored 332.63 in the 3-meter and 320.48 in the 1-meter dive—impressive performances for a newcomer.
Senior Tony Ponomarev and sophomores Gannon Flynn and Henry Dvorak each secured victories in their events. Ponomarev won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.80, while Flynn excelled in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:07.30. Dvorak claimed victory in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 50.84.
The team’s strong performance is part of a growing trend within collegiate swimming, where many teams are increasingly focused on early-season competitions. According to a recent survey by the NCAA, nearly 60% of college swimmers feel that early-season meets are essential for building team chemistry and confidence.
BU’s two recent transfers, Flynn and Dvorak, both earned their first victories for the team, further deepening the roster’s competitiveness.
The Terriers, now boasting a record of 2-0, will next compete on Halloween against Boston College and Army West Point.
