Meryl Streep has finally graced the stage of “Saturday Night Live” for the first time.
She made her debut during the show’s star-studded 50th anniversary special, an event that brought together many celebrities from its history.
Streep appeared in a comical sketch called “Close Encounter,” alongside former cast member Kate McKinnon. In this funny segment, McKinnon shares her over-the-top tale of an alien abduction.
The sketch featured a star lineup that included Woody Harrelson and Pedro Pascal, who also recount their alien experiences, but with a much lighter twist. They were interrogated by military officials played by Jon Hamm and Aidy Bryant.
Streep portrayed McKinnon’s character’s mother. She donned a pastel Hawaiian shirt, reminiscent of her daughter’s outfit, and humorously held a cigarette and a cup.
In her role, Streep described her own wild encounter with aliens, claiming they lost interest and put her in a closet.
When she shared her story, Pascal flirtatiously commented on her being a “good mother.” Streep’s witty reply was that a good mother can also be a bit mischievous.
The anniversary special also featured Jack Nicholson, who made his own “SNL” debut. At 87, Nicholson rarely appears in public, but he energized the audience by introducing Adam Sandler, who performed an original song celebrating the show’s legacy.
