Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Exclusions and Updates
The upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will not bring back the beloved Metal Gear Online from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This decision was confirmed by Konami, leaving many fans disappointed.
Originally launched in June 2008, Metal Gear Online added a multiplayer dimension to the game. Players could engage in different modes, including team battles and unique matchmaking scenarios. However, the servers were shut down in 2012, ending a vibrant part of its community.
Though the absence of MGS4’s multiplayer is a letdown, the collection will still offer some online features. The port of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will include multiplayer support. Players can team up in Co-Ops mode, completing missions together. There’s also a Versus Ops mode for competitive play, allowing up to six players to battle against each other. Local wireless play will be possible on Nintendo Switch systems.
Konami is making some improvements to the single-player experiences as well. Metal Gear Solid 4 will have better resolution, a higher framerate, and customizable controls. It’s uncertain if Peace Walker will receive similar upgrades, but it will feature custom controls.
Interestingly, another game from the collection, Ghost Babel for the Game Boy Color, won’t have its original two-player mode but will include new features like screen filters, a rewind option, and control customizations.
The collection is set to launch on August 27, 2026, for various platforms including Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players who pre-order will receive special in-game items, adding a nice bonus for early supporters.
Fans are afraid the next installment might face the same issues as the first collection. To avoid that, Konami is taking steps to ensure a smoother launch. The company is actively learning from past experiences to deliver a better experience this time around.
