Meta is gearing up to launch its new smart glasses, named Celeste, priced at about $800—much lower than the initially expected rate of over $1,000, as noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These glasses will come with a heads-up display (HUD) and a special wristband that lets users control them through finger gestures.
The HUD will provide useful information, such as time, weather, notifications, and even real-time translations. It’s designed to weigh approximately 70 grams, slightly heavier than Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which weigh around 50 grams. Recent leaks revealed designs and key features ahead of their expected release this October.
Back in April, the price was anticipated to hit between $1,300 and $1,400. However, Meta decided to lower the price to compete better in the market, seeking to attract more customers by sacrificing some profit margins. This strategy appears to align with recent consumer trends. A survey by Statista showed that 35% of respondents consider price a key factor when purchasing tech gadgets.
The Celeste glasses will include various style and lens options, which could increase the final price. Industry experts are curious to see if the small HUD and gesture controls will enhance user experience enough to justify the price compared to competitors like the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which are favored for their design and accessibility.
