Miami men’s basketball is gearing up for its 2025-26 season opener against Old Dominion on November 3 at 7 p.m. This marks the start of Travis Steele’s fourth year as head coach. Last season, the team enjoyed a record-setting performance with 25 wins.
This year, Miami retains 10 players from the previous season, aiming to build on that success. They are eager to make an impact under Steele’s leadership.
Old Dominion, on the other hand, had a tougher time last season with a 15-20 record. Head coach Mike Jones is entering his second season, and his team is predicted to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference. Key player Robert Davis Jr. has been recognized as the Preseason Player of the Year, while teammate Jordan Battle was named to the Preseason All-Sun Third Team.
Historically, Miami has had a strong showing against Old Dominion, winning both encounters. The last matchup ended in a 64-57 victory in 2000.
The RedHawks will have a busy schedule this season, with 31 regular-season games, including 18 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Their first conference game is set for December 20 against Ball State, followed by a pivotal home game on January 3 against reigning MAC champion Akron.
On the roster, Miami features a mix of talent, including six freshmen and new transfers eager to contribute. This infusion of energy keeps the team dynamic and adaptable.
In recent preseason rankings, Miami is second in the MAC, just behind Akron, indicating a competitive season ahead. Additionally, Miami has made it to the College Insider Preseason Mid-Major Top 25, ranking at No. 10.
With so much potential for growth and a promising start, basketball fans can look forward to an exciting season from the RedHawks.
