OXNARD, Calif. – Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently addressed a crowd of fans during practice. Many shouted, “Pay Micah!” They were expressing their desire for the team to sign Micah Parsons to a contract extension.
Jones compared the crowd’s energy to last year when fans rallied for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to get paid. “This chant was softer than the ‘Pay Lamb’ calls,” he noted, referring to how vocal fans were last season.
Last August, the Cowboys secured a $136 million contract with Lamb after their training camp in Oxnard. When asked about Parsons’ contract talks, Jones kept it vague, saying, “I don’t have anything to comment on.”
Executive vice president Stephen Jones also heard the fans and said, “We want to pay Micah, too. He’s got to want to be paid as well.”
The Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson, agreeing to a four-year deal that could be worth up to $52 million, which includes a $12 million signing bonus. Ferguson expressed his excitement about staying in Dallas, saying, “Playing here is awesome.” He has made a significant impact since being drafted in 2022 and is known for his leadership on the field. In his best season, he caught 71 passes for 761 yards and was even a Pro Bowl replacement for San Francisco’s George Kittle.
Ferguson joined Jason Witten as the only tight ends in team history to have two seasons with over 50 catches in their first three years. Even after dealing with injuries, his contributions have been crucial to the team’s success.
Jones praised Ferguson, saying, “He really lifts everyone’s spirits. We’re glad to have him with us.” But Parsons isn’t the only player the Cowboys are looking to extend. They also have their eyes on left guard Tyler Smith, cornerback DaRon Bland, and potentially wide receiver George Pickens. Pro Bowl kicker Brandon Aubrey will also be a restricted free agent after this season.
Contract extensions often come in waves in the NFL. When asked about potential deals, Stephen Jones remarked, “They can come in bunches. We still have a lot going on. It’s all about comfort on both sides.”
As the Cowboys navigate these negotiations, the opinions of fans and expert analysts will continue to shape the conversation. The excitement around players like Parsons and Ferguson highlights the team’s commitment to building a strong roster for future seasons.
