Michael Caine is back! At 92, he’s stepping out of retirement for “The Last Witch Hunter 2,” reprising his role as a priest aiding Vin Diesel’s immortal warrior in a battle against a global plague.
Caine’s journey in and out of retirement is quite the tale. He first stepped away from acting in 2009 after “Harry Brown.” He returned after 24 films in 2021 with “Best Sellers,” and again surprised fans in 2022 with the historical drama “Medieval.” Most recently, he starred in “The Great Escaper,” a touching film about a D-Day veteran’s solo journey to Normandy.
When Caine talked about retirement, he had mixed feelings. He told BBC Radio 4, “With my recent success, I thought it was a good time to step back.” Yet, he hinted he might continue working, announcing plans to portray Charles Darwin in a future film.
Interestingly, that Darwin project hasn’t surfaced yet, but Disney is currently developing their own film about him.
“The Last Witch Hunter,” released a decade ago, had mixed reviews but became popular on streaming platforms, with Netflix noting it as one of their most-watched films last year.
While he’s not on screen much, Caine has stayed busy writing thrillers and sharing glimpses of his life on social media. He’s not the only Oscar-winner making a return; look out for Daniel Day-Lewis’s new film “Anemone,” which marks his first project in eight years.
Caine’s resilience in the industry speaks volumes. A recent survey showed that many older actors find renewed success later in their careers. This reflects a growing trend in Hollywood, where age is becoming less of a barrier.

As Michael Caine proves, the show must go on, no matter your age.
