Families have the right to decline autopsies, especially if there is no suspicion of foul play or for personal beliefs. The New York Police Department reported that Trachtenberg, 39, was found “unconscious and unresponsive” in her New York City apartment. Emergency services arrived and declared her dead. Since no criminal activity was suspected, the cause of her death will not be revealed.

Michelle started acting at a young age. She appeared in commercials by the time she was three and landed her first TV role in Nickelodeon’s “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” in the mid-‘90s. She got her big break at just 10 years old, starring in “Harriet the Spy” (1996). Later, she joined the cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as Dawn Summers during its fifth season, staying until the show ended in 2003.

She also gained fame for her role as Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl,” running from 2007 to 2012. Her character returned for two episodes in the reboot in 2022. Trachtenberg’s filmography includes movies like “Eurotrip” (2004), “Ice Princess” (2005), and “17 Again” (2009), where she acted alongside Zac Efron.

Many of her co-stars, including Sarah Michelle Gellar from “Buffy,” expressed their sorrow on social media. Gellar shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying, “Michelle, listen to me. I love you. I will always love you.” She posted a collection of photos of the two together, emphasizing the difficulty of life but vowing to live bravely in Michelle’s memory.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing at such a young age resonates deeply with many millennials who grew up watching her. As noted by Daniel D’Addario from Variety, she was a prominent young star who left a mark on childhoods, showcasing her talent in diverse roles that combined humor and emotion. Her influence on shows like “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” “Buffy,” and “Gossip Girl” will be remembered for years to come.
