Michigan Wolverines Face Off Against Top-Ranked Notre Dame: A Must-Watch Weekend Showdown in South Bend!

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – This Saturday, the University of Michigan men’s lacrosse team (3-4) faces a tough match against the top-ranked Notre Dame (5-0) at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. The game starts at noon and will be aired on ACC Network.

This match marks Michigan’s fourth straight game against a ranked opponent, adding to the challenge as Notre Dame currently holds the top position nationally.

Last week, Michigan struggled in a close game against No. 5 Harvard. Despite a rocky start, with Harvard scoring two quick goals, the Wolverines kept the game tight, trailing 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. In a brief surge, Michigan took the lead 5-4 after a trio of goals from Alex Gatto, Kade Goldberg, and Carson Billig. However, Harvard responded and ultimately pulled away with a strong finish.

On the offensive side, junior attacker Nick Roode is a standout player for Michigan, leading the team with 25 points from 22 goals and three assists. Impressively, he has scored at least two goals in every game this season and registered five hat tricks, showcasing his skill and consistency.

Freshmen Luke Shannehan and Tay Rodriguez are making significant impacts early in their collegiate careers. Shannehan ranks second on the team with 24 points, including 17 goals and seven assists. He has already bagged three hat tricks and has achieved his personal best with five goals in two games. Meanwhile, Rodriguez stands out in faceoffs, winning 46 out of 89 attempts with a 51.7% success rate. He also leads the team with 28 ground balls.

Earlier this season, Michigan made headlines by setting a program record, scoring 24 goals against Mercyhurst, which broke their previous record of 23, established in February 2022. In that game, the Wolverines dominated with an impressive offensive run.

After the match against Notre Dame, Michigan will dive into Big Ten Conference play, traveling to Baltimore, Maryland, to face Johns Hopkins on March 21. The Wolverines are eager to build on their skills and get back on the winning track against fierce competition.
