ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan volleyball team faced off against No. 20 Indiana on Friday night, losing in straight sets: 23-25, 17-25, 19-25. The match was held at Cliff Keen Arena, and the Wolverines put up a good fight, particularly in the first set.
Allison Jacobs was a standout performer for Michigan, leading the team with 12 kills. Morgan Burke also made her mark, delivering 13 assists and reaching an impressive milestone of over 2,000 career assists. On the defensive side, Serena Nyambio excelled with six blocks, while Maddi Cuchran tallied eight digs.
Each set was competitive. In the first set, Michigan and Indiana exchanged leads frequently. The score saw six lead changes and was tied 14 times. The second set started closely, but Indiana quickly pulled ahead, going on a five-point streak that put them out of reach. Despite a strong effort from Jacobs and Nyambio, Indiana’s attack proved too strong, especially as they hit .312 compared to Michigan’s struggle at .103.
In the third set, Michigan initially led 4-1, but Indiana regained control. The Hoosiers mounted a significant run, extending their lead at 21-14. Although Michigan showed resilience, their efforts weren’t enough, and Indiana closed out the match decisively with a hit percentage of .414.
So far this season, Michigan holds a record of 11-5 overall and 1-4 in Big Ten play. In comparison, Indiana remains strong with a 14-1 record and is unbeaten in the conference at 5-0. This matchup highlighted just how competitive the Big Ten Conference is this year.
