MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) men’s tennis recently had an eventful day, splitting two matches. They played No. 41 Yale first, losing 4-3, but rebounded with a strong 4-0 win against Alabama A&M.
Against Yale, the Blue Raiders started off on the wrong foot, dropping the doubles point after Yale won on courts two and three. The top court was close but ended unfinished, with MTSU leading.
In singles play, Yale quickly took control. Jason Shuler and Eric Li won their matches, putting the Bulldogs ahead 3-0. MTSU’s Eric Crivei fought back, sealing a victory on court six, but it wasn’t enough. Yale clinched the match when Vignesh Gogineni defeated Ondrej Horak.
Despite this disappointment, MTSU showed resilience in their second match. They captured the doubles point again, this time winning decisively on courts one and three. Al-Amin and Horak’s victory came with a convincing 6-1 score. Birtan Duran and Santiago Lora teamed up for the first time this season and also delivered a solid win.
In singles, MTSU continued to shine. Antoine Mayoral won handily, followed by Lora and Duran, who both secured quick victories, clinching the match without dropping a set.

This highlights the importance of teamwork, evident in MTSU’s bounce-back from the earlier loss.
Additionally, social media reactions to the matches were vibrant. Fans took to Twitter, sharing their pride and urging the team to keep pushing forward, helping to create a supportive online community.
As they prepare for their next match against South Florida on March 14, MTSU’s ability to learn from past experiences will be crucial.
