Milwaukee Burglary Spree: How Nearby Small Businesses Are Being Targeted Days Apart

MILWAUKEE – Two small businesses on the south side of Milwaukee have been hit by burglaries just days apart. The owners suspect the same thief is behind both incidents.

At BC Modern, a vintage store near Chase and Oklahoma, co-owner Eric Lewis discovered the break-in on Wednesday morning. Surveillance footage showed a suspect in black taking jewelry from the display cases.

“Jewelry was scattered all over the floor,” Lewis described. “This place is our sanctuary. It’s hard to feel safe when something like this happens.” Not just jewelry was stolen; a sense of security was taken away, too.

Next door, at La Salsa, the restaurant also experienced the thief’s presence. The same suspect entered their establishment just days earlier. While nothing of great value was taken, co-owner Marisela Santa Cruz expressed relief that no one was harmed during the break-in.

Both business owners now urge the community to stay vigilant. “We’ve made adjustments to enhance security and are committed to moving forward,” said Lewis. Though burglaries can hurt a small business financially, they are determined not to let this setback define them.

The Milwaukee Police Department is still investigating the incidents. Community support is essential as these businesses recover from the turmoil of being violated.
